A new report highlights the staggering number of people scammed in the UK every week, emphasizing the urgent need to address this crime. Millions of pounds are lost daily, with victims experiencing significant financial and emotional hardship.
The number of people scammed every week in the UK is enough to fill 670 London buses, but experts warn it’s the tip of the iceberg. Fraud is the most common crime in the UK with £1.7 billion lost to scammers last year, according to UK Finance. CEL Solicitors, a legal firm specialising in fraud recovery, has broken down this huge number to show the crime’s impact on individuals across the UK. Jessica Hampson, CEO of CEL Solicitors said: “As shocking as that £1.
7 billion is, it’s hard to imagine the true impact and loss scammers have caused. “Billions of pounds is an unthinkable amount of money and we always want to remind people that behind these numbers are real people having their lives turned upside down.” others that it is real people that are having their lives turned upside down.” According to CEL Solicitors 56,959 people are scammed every week, which is enough to fill 670 London buses and more than the capacity of the Etihad Stadium. Mrs Hampson added: “Each of these victims represents a story of loss and heartbreak, showing how widespread and devastating fraud now is in the UK.” Millions are lost to fraud every day, CEL Solicitors worked out that it’s enough to buy 4,114 iPhones. “Around £3,200,000 is lost to fraud daily, that’s roughly the value of a private jet. As well as the emotional impact, fraud creates an economic ripple effect that undermines personal savings and financial stability,” Mrs Hampson added. “The hourly loss is £133,562 which could buy enough petrol to drive to the moon and back. The length of a lunch break and victims have had their life savings plundered.” Every minute £2,226 is lost to fraud, which CEL Solicitors compared to a family of four taking a holiday to Disneyland Paris. “One person is scammed every six seconds in the UK. That’s six people a minute and 360 in an hour. And the impact spreads to family and partners who also feel the effects of the loss,” Mrs Hampson sai
