Free and cheap things to do with the kids in Manchester this school holidays summer 2023
The school holidays are here and perhaps sending parents into a blind panic over how they're going to keep the kids entertained for the next six weeks.
It will feature a special 'Storybook room', snippets from the animated versions of the likes of The Gruffalo, Zog and Snail and the Whale, as well as an exploration of how Julia and Axel have worked together to create their iconic works. From the Opening Party to the final Carnival Parade, a jam packed calendar will include circus workshops, dance schools, live stage shows, carnival crafts and all the fun of the fair.
They will be spread across the town centre and it's hoped this year's trail - with characters including Frogwart's Express and Zippy - will pull in as many visitors as similar trails in previous years. Every Thursday afternoon throughout the summer holidays there'll be free hair braiding and tattoos and craft workshops, with a different activity each week - ranging from decorating beach buckets to designing a family photo frame.
Visitors to the free family events will be able to experience over 20 amazing different attractions each day, including live performances, music, sports and shows for children of all ages. Family Hub: Play Through Time gives visitors a chance to discover how children kept themselves entertained during the Second World War when many toys went out of production and factories turned to making toys from paper or card due to shortages.
There will also be screenings of the eagerly-anticipated new Barbie movie for a week-long run later in July, along with a host of family favourites including The Greatest Showman and Back to the Future, as well as recent releases The Little Mermaid, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse and Super Mario Bros.
The special offer tickets cost £22.50 and are for selected dates from 8th July 8 to September 17 with limited availability. Tickets cover up to two adults and three children and must be bought online seven days in advance of travelling.East Lancs Railways, Bolton Street Station, Bury, BL9 0EYMerseybay is set to return to Merseyway, providing seaside fun for all the family.
Merseyway will also be hosting Activity Wednesdays each week at Merseybay, where children can enjoy a themed event on the beach from 12pm to 3pm. These will include a dinosaur event, a pirate party, a prince and princess party and a closing Beach Party.Merseyway Shopping Centre, 52 - 54 Great Underbank, Stockport, SK1 1PDJurassic Journey, Bury Families will be able to hunt for dinosaurs in Bury this summer.
Activities include everything from Victorian Washday, Junk Modelling and Pet Portraits. Lots of them are free and for others there's a small charge. Families can drop in throughout August between 10.30am and 1pm on Tuesdays and between 1pm and 4pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.On top of the Playtime fun and games, there'll be songs, dancing, arts, crafts, and circus skills celebrating its partnership with the charity Afrocats.
There's everything from Pac-Man and Space Invaders to Donkey Kong and Sega Rally and kids can play their modern favourites like Fortnite and Rocket League. The fair will also be running as part of the event, with rides, inflatables, trampolines, dino appearances and more.National Football Museum Families are invited to get in the game this summer at the National Football Museum's 'most interactive exhibition to date'.
