A cyclist’s bid to pedal all the way from Germany to Lanarkshire was derailed when he realised there were few dedicated cycle lanes on his route through England.

Danny said: “I arrived here on Monday but I skipped a large part of England. It was three nights and four days to get to Dover for the ferry. “In England it was just mad, when I was cycling on the roads they didn’t have any bike lanes, except for London which was good. But in the countryside it was crazy.Aušra is originally from Lithuania and works as an apprentice dental nurse in a Coatbridge practice.
“I think he underestimated the journey, and the fact there were few paths for bikes in England and it was taking longer than expected.” He returned last year to complete the route from start to finish but before the hike he met up in person with Aušra in Glasgow. The two have kept in touch since visiting each other in their respective homes.
