Jamie Jellis's football journey took an unexpected turn when he was released by Stevenage at 19. Facing the challenges of the pandemic and a part-time career, he persevered through various jobs, including bricklaying and working with his uncle. His determination paid off when he joined Walsall, where he overcame an initial injury to become a key player in their successful League Two campaign.

When Jamie Jellis was released by Stevenage aged 19 in 2020 it could really have gone any way, especially in the midst of the pandemic. But he knuckled down and went to work - literally and metaphorically. He switched to the part-time game and fought his way back. 'It was hard dropping out of football at the age of like 19 or 20,' he admits. 'It was during Covid as well so everyone was scrambling around.

'It was tough coming in injured, but it was also a bit of a blessing as it gave me to the time to adapt again to full-time football and get to know the lads and how it works at the club,' he says. 'I just appreciate being around the training ground and in the building. I see it as a blessing that I'm back in full-time football. 'I've done the other side of life where you have to work and try and play part-time.
