An ex-Premier League footballer's abandoned mansion, previously used as a cannabis farm, has been transformed into a stunning dream home by a local businessman. Steve Leonard, who purchased the property at auction, spent over a year restoring the nearly 100-year-old building to its former glory.

An abandoned Cheshire mansion, once reportedly used as a cannabis farm, has undergone a remarkable transformation into a dream home . The property, formerly owned by ex-Premier League footballer Jermaine Pennant, stood derelict after his split from his former partner in 2020. It was allegedly taken over by a drug gang and used for cultivating cannabis before Steve Leonard, a local businessman, purchased it at auction for £570,000.

Leonard, originally from Anfield, embarked on a year-and-a-half-long renovation project with his wife Tina, breathing new life into the nearly 100-year-old building. They meticulously restored every aspect of the property, from the roof to the walls and floors, determined to preserve its original character. Leonard declined to demolish the house despite suggestions from others, emphasizing his aversion to destruction and his passion for restoring historic buildings.\The couple had long admired the property, walking past it daily on their morning strolls and dreaming of owning it one day. Leonard described how he visualized the house's potential and felt a strong connection to it. He meticulously planned the renovation, taking down walls, reconfiguring the layout, and even commissioning a Tudor black and white render effect to complement the surrounding thatched cottages. The interior boasts a stunning 5ft oak staircase, dark-stained log beams, and panelling throughout, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.\Leonard, who runs a property portfolio, dedicated himself to the project, working alongside Tina and their daughter Caitlin. He acknowledged the immense effort involved, stating that he worked 80 to 90 hour weeks to achieve their vision. He emphasized his commitment to doing most of the work himself to keep costs manageable and to ensure the highest level of quality. The family documented their journey on Instagram and TikTok, sharing their progress and inspiring others with their dedication and passion. Leonard expressed their unwavering love for the house, stating that they would only consider selling it under extraordinary circumstances as it is their forever home, a testament to their hard work and unwavering commitment to creating their dream
