Following hot on the heels of the Gregorian new year, we take a closer look at the upcoming Lunar New Year as the world prepares to welcome in the Year of the Rabbit in 2023
Celebrated around the world and largely underpinned by themes of hope and reunion, the Lunar New Year is a staple of many households across the globe.
This means that this year, Lunar New Year comes less than a month after the Gregorian new year, and takes place on Sunday 22nd January. What is the animal this year? In 2023, the world will bid farewell to the Year of the Tiger and welcome in the Year of the Rabbit, as the next animal in the Chinese zodiac.
At the meal, many foods are traditionally served including Spring Rolls, Dumplings, Niangao , Fa Gao, alongside steamed fish, steamed chicken and plenty of fruit and vegetables. Many of the decorations seen adorning homes and businesses will also be red, a colour widely synonymous with luck and good fortune.
