With the Royal Children's Hospital her only option, the seven-year-old leukaemia patient from Mildura has made half a dozen long-haul trips to Melbourne this year.

The seven-year-old from Mildura, in north-west Victoria, lives with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and has spent almost six months undergoing treatment almost 550 kilometres from home, at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

Her father, Steven, said not having suitable treatment options locally meant Daisy couldn't live a "normal life". However, Mildura is not part of the program, which means Daisy can't get the support others in regional cities can get. The Victorian government recently announced an initiative to provide radiotherapy for public patients in Mildura for the first time.Emotional toll on the family
