From the factories of the iPhone come three new EVs
It’s been a few years since we’ve heard any mutterings about Foxtron , the car brand birthed from the makers of the iPhone—Taiwanese conglomerate Foxconn . At Hon Hai Tech Day 2024, the newbie car maker revealed some new electrified models.
First up, there’s the Model D, a ginormous people-carrying machine sitting at five meters long with a wheelbase of 3.2 meters. To give that context, the wheelbase of a Ford Transit Custom is 3.3 meters. That's, er, long.
Despite appearances, the MPV’s been developed in collaboration with Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, not avid players of the box-based Minecraft game.“Our design team took great care in creating the Model D from the inside out, focusing on maximising interior space while maintaining a sleek, aerodynamic exterior,” said Pininfarina chief creative officer Felix Kilbertus. “This approach provides exceptional visibility and a modern, athletic feel that appeals to today’s drivers.
“The Model D is a significant evolution from traditional SUVs, offering a spacious cabin wrapped in a monolithic, aerodynamic body. We are thrilled with the deep collaboration we’ve had with Foxconn, enabling us to create a cohesive family of electric vehicles that includes the Model E, Model B, and now the Model D.”Foxconn also revealed the Model C, a car actually already on sale in Taiwan under the name Luxgen n7.
Whether it’ll be specced out quite the same is yet to be seen. There’s been a prototype with an 80kWh battery, but we are told the SUV is being readied for release to the North American market in the middle of next year.Finally, it seems the company needs a new Scrabble game since half of the alphabet was overlooked to name its mid-sized electric bus, the Model U. Details are sparse on this model too. More as we get it.
