Frustrated drivers found themselves stuck in long delays on a major cross border road in the the Oswestry area this morning.

The delays are understood to be because Seven Trent Water is carrying out work on the A5 between the Gledrid roundabout and Gobowen. One driver said he did not understand why the works had to be carried out at busy times and it is not the first time.

He said:"This isn't the first time it has happened around here and I just don't understand the timing. "They're doing works on a major trunk road, one of the busiest in the region which links parts of Mid Wales and Shropshire to North Wales and the North West, in the middle of the day."Journeys that I make that are usually a two minute job are now 25 minutes, but it is people commuting, delivering and travelling for other purposes that are having to put up with the brunt of it.

"I just don't understand why they cannot do these types of works in the evening. It is surely easier for everything, the workers as well as the road users." AA Traffic News reported delays of eight minutes on the A5 Westbound between B5069, South Gobowen / Hospital Roundabout and B5070 Chirk Road .At the Halton Roundabout there are reported delays of eight minutes on Halton Roundabout Eastbound between A5 and A5. The average speed is reported to be 15 mph and the issue was reported there at 6:49am.National Highways which looks after major trunk routes says there haven’t been any incidents in the area this morning.
