JD Wetherspoon, run by the businessman Tim Martin, has 23 sites up for sale, after already getting rid of 28 this year, according to Nottinghamshire Live.
Martin claims the shift has been misinterpreted as a way to save money, despite the hospitality industry facing an increase in costs across the board. Last year, the company said selling off a number of venues from its 827 sites was a "commercial decision".The stock market-listed company has seen sales increase 11.5% year on year in the 10 weeks so far of its final trading quarter, and are up 12.9% in the financial year to date.
