Bolton Council have given details of widespread road closures on Sunday and are supporting a ‘better way to give’ method for spectators to help those struggling on the streets
Visitors to Bolton over the Ironman weekend have been urged to donate to local charities as an alternative to giving directly to people begging in the town centre. The borough is set to welcome thousands of athletes and supporters across the Night Run, Ironkids and Ironman 70.3 events during June 28-30.
“Bolton people are among the most generous in the country and it is only natural that people want to give to those in need. “Hope for Change is the best way to do this, it ensures your money goes to Bolton charities who can help tackle the complex problems that lead to people begging in the first place.”The Hope For Change collection boxes can be found in shops and businesses across the town centre. Donations are distributed through Bolton Community and Voluntary Services.
Anyone heading to Middlebrook from Bolton is advised to use Wigan Road to Manchester Road / Chorley Road and then use De Havilland Way to reach the retail park. Atherleigh Way will be closed northbound only between Kirkhall Lane and the Talbot roundabout 06:00 –10:45.North Road from the junction with Gibfield Park Avenue, Platt Lane and the A58 from Platt Lane to the Chequerbent roundabout will be closed 06:30 – 11:00.
