Oakland police officers bade a final farewell Friday to Officer Jordan Wingate, who died from injuries in an on-duty crash in 2018.Motor officers escorted Wingate's flag-draped casket to Three Crosses Church in Castro Valley, the same church where the department had honored Officer Tuan Le, who was shot and killed while responding to a marijuana-business burglary in December.
"And it dawned on me when I'd make him lunch, when I'd make the kids lunches I'd write, 'I love you' or 'I'm proud of you,' I'd write a note, on the lunch. I then realized. ....that...yeah," the retired captain said, pausing to control his emotion.The fallen officer's sister Autumn Wingate said through tears, "We will always remember you, the laughs you gave us, and your beautiful smile.
