Fierce opposition has been raised against the bridge, with many worried about the flooding issues' overwhelming the lane making the cycle path 'unsafe'. Others fear the plans which include a new cycle and pedestrian bridge as well as two transport bridges pose flooding and traffic chaos risks She also raised concerns about the impact of the highways infrastructure on local roads as congestion already rife, warning traffic would become 'gridlocked'.
Terence Goad, who is a Beckley homeowner, argued that the Bayswater Road Junction was 'dangerous' for cyclists. The spokeswoman also said 'additional conditions' needed to be outlined to ensure an 'environmentally safe low car development in a secure setting'.
