The house where Jesse Boot once entertained employees stood next to the property.
A Victorian home in West Bridgford with historic links to Jesse Boot remains standing four years after the demolition of the site was first approved. The house once stood next to Plaisaunce, the summer home where Jesse and Florence Boot would entertain employees of the company.
Updated plans in 2021 then saw a single building encompassing six apartments being approved. But the original building is still standing, currently marketed by Savills as a "rare and exciting opportunity" for developers. With a guide price of £1.5 million, the listing from Savills confirms that the approved development entails a demolition of the existing building in favour of six apartments across four floors.
"She showed me pictures of it and it was just so beautiful. This house is now the last thing that remains of that time and so we can't demolish it." Situated in extensive grounds which included three tennis courts and a skittle alley, Plaisaunce was used as a venue for employee sports and social gatherings. Garden parties, musical concerts and firework displays were among the regular events, with the Boots Plaisaunce Band formed in 1906.
