BBC sports presenter Gabby Logan opens up about adjusting to an empty nest after both her children left home for university and professional rugby.
Gabby Logan has revealed how she was 'waiting to feel grief' as she addressed a major family change she suffered recently. Chatting to Hello magazine, the BBC sports presenter shared details of how she has been adapting to a huge family upheaval recently. Her daughter Lois left home for university last September, just 18 months after her twin brother, Reuben, followed in his father's footsteps as he embarked on a career in rugby.
Explaining how she has been coming to terms with the sudden change in her family life, the 51-year-old said: 'I was waiting to feel more grief, so hopefully we're finding a balance. Maybe I'm saying yes to things that I wouldn't usually say yes to. It's a slow and interesting change. It doesn't feel dramatic, but I'm sure that when I look back in a year, I'll realise that things have changed a lot.' Despite the expectation that she was going to be 'grieving' while her and rugby union legend Kenny Logan were left with an empty nest, Gabby added: 'There are some nights when you're on your own, and then it does feel a bit strange.' In August last year while Gabby was preparing for the prospect of her daughter leaving for university that she told her Midlife with Gabby Logan podcast listeners: 'Lois is going to be more semi-permanent, because she's not going to be coming home during the week, she's not going to be coming home every weekend like he does. So we might go three or four weeks without seeing her.' As both of her children look to pursue careers in the world of sport, with Lois training to become a showjumper at the University of Loughborough and Reuben playing for Northampton Saints, Gabby explained how she takes pleasure in watching their sporting achievements from the sidelines.
