“The choir was initially set up for five weeks using funding from Galloway’s,” said Jon. “But we were having such a good time that we and the church agreed it should continue for longer.
Although several of the choir members are sighted, others have little or no sight so there is no assumption that the group will be able to view lyrics sheets or follow visual cues. This determines the choice of songs, the arrangements and the way the songs are learned in the sessions.John said: “I try to do what’s best for the particular individuals who are attending the group.
The choir is part of the wide variety of activities delivered by Preston Music Workshops that has led to it being nominated for the National Diversity Awards., the Blue Flamingo dementia café, Leyland adult day care centre and occasionally for Preston People’s Choir and Walk this Way Choir.The next Galloway’s Choir takes place on Friday 3 May from 12pm to 1pm at the Central Methodist Church in Lune Street.
