It was bankers galore at Melbourne Park over the weekend - and plenty of snooping to see who had landed which clients to take to the men’s and women’s tennis finals.

One that escaped our sister column Rear Window’s write-up was Goldman Sachs’ cohort, which included one of the hottest clients-to-be in the country, Chemist Warehouse founder Jack Gance.Sources said Gance was perched right next to Goldman Sachs’ newest Australian partner and local investment banking team co-head, Zac Fletcher, who’s no slouch when it comes to advising big consumer sector companies.

Street Talk’s been following the Chemist Warehouse float story for years - as have all the major investment banks. The chain, one of the biggest and most successful retailers in Australia, has had, including tidying up its corporate structure and most recently dealing with regulatory approvals. It comes big Australian companies try to prise open the initial public offering market, which has been shut to all-but small speculative listings since early last year. Virgin Australia is leading the charge, interviewing investment banks this week.
