Convicted murderer Stephen Strutt died after being stabbed in prison last week - the ECHO has looked at a number of other times criminals have been attacked in prison
The fatal knife attack of a convicted murderer has shone a light on the violent threat of extreme violence in the UK's cracking prison system. Murderer Stephen Strutt, 42, died in hospital of his injuries after he was stabbed inside HMP Dovegate , near Uttoxeter on July 13. A fellow prisoner has been arrested on suspicion of his murder.
Prison healthcare staff treated Caswell's wound after the attack and he did not require hospital treatment. Back in 2019, dad-of-one Daniel Andrews left paedophile Jordan Murray with a 15cm wound across his cheek . He used his razor to slice Murray's cheek just moments after Murray had revealed he had convictions for sexual offences against children. When asked why he carried out the attack, Andrews told a prison officer: 'He's got two victims, think of them.
