A gardener from Mansfield Woodhouse was fined over £700 for fly-tipping household waste, tyres, and furniture in a secluded Nottinghamshire spot. Richard Morey, operating under the business name R&A Gardening Services, was reported to Gedling Borough Council after an unknowing resident paid him £50 to dispose of their waste. Morey falsely advertised himself as a licensed waste carrier on Facebook.

A gardener has been fined for his 'appalling' actions after he fly-tipped rubbish in a secluded Nottinghamshire spot. Richard Morey, of Mansfield Woodhouse, has been fined over £700 for dumping household waste, tyres, and furniture in rural Ravenshead, near Mansfield, in March 2024. He was fined £500 and ordered to pay £200 towards prosecution costs after being taken to court.

Councillor David Ellis, who is responsible for public protection at Gedling Borough Council, said: “This conviction is a warning to anyone thinking about fly-tipping. We will not hesitate to prosecute offenders and we will do everything in our power to find the culprits. We urge residents to report any fly-tipping they see and to always check waste carriers are licensed.' Mr Ellis explained the council had first received a report about the fly-tipping on March 26 last year. Neighbourhood wardens investigated the waste and traced it back to Morey. A further investigation revealed that an unknowing resident had paid Morey £50 to dispose of their waste due to his business, R&A Gardening Services, stating on Facebook that he was a licenced waste carrier. He pleaded guilty at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on January 30 for failing in his duty of care regarding controlled waste. Mr Morey failed to cooperate with Gedling Borough Council’s public protection team which led to legal action and his arrest, Gedling Borough Council said. Mr Ellis added: “I would like to thank our neighbourhood wardens for their thorough investigation, which has led to this positive result for the council and for residents affected by this appalling behaviour.
