Expert says gardeners can 'create a more sustainable garden using unwanted plant waste'
As a nation of avid gardeners, we Brits spend countless hours tending to our gardens. Yet, as environmentally aware horticulturists, there are still ways in which we can also boost the eco-friendliness of our green spaces and support local wildlife.
Garden expert Emily Green from Howarth Timber has offered some straightforward tips for cultivating more sustainable gardens, reports the Mirror. She adds: "Not only is it environment friendly, it's a free source of compost that's there whenever you need it." Emily insists timing is essential when watering your garden. She advises gardeners to "water in the mornings and evenings because avoiding the warmer hours of the day will reduce evaporation. Another good way to be more efficient with water is to use drip irrigation or a soaker hose."
Emily's advice is clear: "Rather than getting in the car to go to the shops, spend money on expensive packaged vegetables, fruit and herbs, you can cut down on waste, save money and be eco-savvy by simply growing your own organically.
