“I keep speaking with his agent or agents, almost on a daily basis, even today and we’re hoping to have him in camp as soon as we can,” Dorion said at a pre-camp press conference with coach D.J. Smith. One of the issues hanging over this negotiation is trying to get a contract off the books to make room for Pinto under the cap. The club only has about $900,000 in space and that’s made it a little more difficult because Pinto’s camp has been waiting to see how that situation may settle itself.“That’s part of the job of being a general manager,” he said. “In a salary cap era you have to get creative. Other teams have done it, and we see ourselves being able to do it.
All eyes are on winger Mathieu Joseph and his $2.95 million cap hit through the next three seasons. The 26-year-old struggled mightily last season with only three goals and 18 points in 56 games.
