The Match Of The Day star Gary Lineker has insisted that his controversial tweets comparing the Government's new asylum policy to 1930s Germany was 'factually accurate'
Gary Lineker has said he still believes his tweet about the Government’s “cruel” asylum policy was “factually accurate”.
Gary was taken off air by the broadcaster after posting a tweet in which he said the language used by the Government to promote its asylum plans, in his opinion, sounded similar to 1930s Germany. He said that he'd been working with refugees' charities for several years, which caused him to have a strong reaction to the film that Suella Braverman posted about their new policy.
“I wasn’t abusive, I wasn’t saying she was a Nazi. I talked about the use of words like ‘invasion’ and ‘swarms’ and ‘criminals’ and ‘rapists’, which I think we should be very careful about because it has real-life consequences.”
