Success at Sporting CP have many fans thrilled at Ruben Amorim's appointment but Gary Neville has identified a flaw in the set-up he could bring to the club
Gary Neville has cast doubts on whether Ruben Amorim 's preferred back three formation will suit Manchester United, suggesting the new boss might have been better off taking over next summer.
The ex-full-back discussed his reservations on the Stick to Football podcast, powered by Sky Bet: "You're always optimistic about a new manager coming in," he said. "I can see why he wanted the job next summer because he would rather have pre-season to implement the brand-new system. Those players have not played three at the back at all, some of them might never have played it.
"We cannot transport one reality to another," Amorim said. "United cannot play the way play - they cannot be so defensive... I'll be living in a different world. We'll have to start from a different point." It's not uncommon for new managers acclimatising to the Premier League to make significant changes from their preferred systems. A notable example is how former Jurgen Klopp transitioned from his 4-2-3-1 at Borussia Dortmund to achieve success at Liverpool with a 4-3-3 set up.
