The first images have emerged, revealing the aftermath of a blast attributed to a suspected gas explosion in a Leeds suburb. The cul-de-sac on Marshall Street was rocked by the explosion shortly after 10.30pm on January 1, with reports of the bang being heard for miles and comparing the sound to that of a bomb, causing nearby homes to tremble. Residents found windows and doors obliterated and debris strewn across gardens. One caravan was reported as 'blown to smithereens'.

Andrew Fielden, who lives near the incident site, described the moment: 'I heard a big bang and felt the house shake. Everything shook. We saw all the debris and windows in the street. We saw all his windows in the garden and his doors blown off' After encountering the damage first hand, Mr Fielden witnessed a damaged caravan and a man walking out from the destroyed house: 'He just walked out of the house; unbelievable - he's lucky to be alive.' Mr Fielden and another individual assessed the man who appeared unscathed: 'He didn't seem to be badly injured. He said 'bloody hell, look at my caravan.' I says 'never mind your caravan mate - you're alive mate. You're lucky to be alive.' Aimee Olivia, 20, another resident in the vicinity echoed the shock: 'I heard the explosion, it was a massive bang that shook my whole house and it happened at the top of my street,' reports Leeds Live. 'I have never heard anything like it before. It sounded like a bomb had gone off.' A resident revealed that her neighbours had captured doorbell footage showing the explosion 'blowing their windows in'. Following the blast at a home on Marshall Street, emergency services found a 57 year old man with serious injuries; he was promptly taken to hospital. The explosion caused significant damage to two properties, leading to the evacuation of surrounding homes due to safety concerns.
