Taxes on filling up have increased in some states as of July 1.
Several U.S. states have increased levies on gas starting this month, meaning motorists will be paying more at the pump.How much fuel costs depends on current oil prices and the cost of refining it—but state taxes on gas also contribute to the overall price at the pump. For example, California has the highest tax rate nationwide on gas, closely followed by Illinois—both of which have increased gas prices this July.
The Colorado Department of Revenue has announced the state's road usage fee, will rise from 3 cents per gallon to 4 cents per gallon. As well as this, the environmental fee will rise from 0.6 cents per gallon to approximately 1.3 cents per gallon.In total, the state tax on gas will increase from approximately 26 cents per gallon to about 28 cents per gallon.IndianaIndiana's Department of State Revenue has increased the gas tax rate to 35 cents per gallon.
