She has opened up about her early life in the city
Actress Alison Steadman has shared one favourite memory from her school years in Liverpool. The 78-year-old Gavin and Stacey actress has enjoyed a six-decade career on stage and screen and is set to return to her role as Essex mum Pam in the hit BBC sitcom for its new Christmas special. For Alison, it all started in her childhood home in Anfield as she grew up the youngest of three sisters in Sherwyn Road.
Her career has taken her across the country, but Alison pinpointed something about Liverpool which gave her a head start. She previously told the ECHO: ' One of the things I'll always thank Liverpool for is that teachers in schools set up Liverpool Youth Theatre when I was around 15. 'That was incredible, that really helped me. We used to improvise all the time. When I auditioned for drama school, the main thing they wanted me to do was improvise.
