Jeffery Donaldson has resigned as DUP leader and been suspended from the party after being charged with historical offences
East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson has been named the new interim leader of the DUP following the resignation of Jeffery Donaldson.
Gavin Robinson, had been the deputy leader of the party after being elected to the position in June 2023, and was appointed the new DUP leader by party officers on March 29.He has been the MP for East Belfast since 2015 and first became a political representative of the party when he was co-opted onto Belfast City Council in 2010 in the Pottinger Electoral Area, replacing Sammy Wilson.
Since August 2019 he has been an unpaid Chair of EastSide Tourism Ltd and unpaid Director of EastSide Partnership. "In accordance with the Party Rules, the Party Officers have suspended Mr Donaldson from membership, pending the outcome of a judicial process.
