UN deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed said nearly 19,000 children had been taken to hospital for acute malnutrition in the four months before December. A Palestinian mother holds her five-year-old daughter suffering from malnutrition, at a shelter they live after being displaced by the war, in Deir el-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
Yasmine Sherif, executive director of the UN global fund Education Cannot Wait, told a press conference that 650,000 school-age children have not been attending classes and the entire education system has to be rebuilt because of the widespread destruction in Gaza.
