Schools minister, Nick Gibb, has rejected union claims that the new format has led to some pupils refusing to take exams. Asked about the concerns of teaching unions on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Gibb said: “We have seen a significant increase in the number of entries to GCSE this year so I’m not sure that I accept their their assertion about children not taking these GCSE.” He also defended the new format and suggested the onus was on schools to deal with the stress of pupils.
