It is GCSE results day and after a long summer of waiting, teenagers across the regions will be collecting their results.
Dr Simon Hinchliffe, Headmaster at Bradford Grammar School, said: “This year group had their introduction to secondary school life interrupted by the COVID pandemic and, like many of their older peers, have shown remarkable resilience and Hog Age spirit. We’re celebrating all of their achievements today, their sporting successes, their artistic triumphs, as well as their academic excellence. We’re very proud of them all.
Some 234 education settings in England were identified as having the collapse-risk concrete in their buildings, according to Department for Education figures, with 94 identified as being secondary of all-through state schools and some switching to temporary classrooms or online learning when authorities shut buildings for periods of the last academic year.
“There has been a growing gap between the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and their more affluent peers and this is something that must be tackled. It is vital that all children, regardless of their background are given the opportunity to reach their full potential.”Another student at Huddersfield's Shelly College who was pleased with her results was Coral Weldon. She said: “I passed everything and did well on most subjects.
“You’ve shown amazing resilience, overcoming challenges, and you should be proud of all you’ve achieved. Well done.”Adam Metcalfe was another student achieving some excellent results featuring 9s, 8s and one 7. He said: “I’ve done very well. Speaking of her experience at Shelley College, she said: “It’s been really good. They’ve been very supportive during the entire thing. They were always there if you had any questions.”Jack Wyatt, Associate Principle at Shelley College said students had achieved a “really pleasing seat of results”, with improvements across the board.He continued: “We’re really confident out progress will put it in the best schools in Kirklees and nationally.
“But actually, there are opportunities available, whether that’s in vocational training, whether that’s in sixth form, whether that’s in a college, whether it’s an apprenticeship, or whether it’s going into the workplace, and I just think it’s really important as a Government that we make sure that those opportunities are available and that we keep building those opportunities as well.
“From A-levels and T-levels to apprenticeships, they now have an exciting range of options available to them.
