Commonwealth public sector employers with 100 or more staff were required to report gender equality data for the first time in 2022. But Wooldridge commended the federal bureaucracy for achieving gender balance in every level of management, while about 48% of public sector bodies have a gender-balanced workforce. That was almost double the proportion of employers in the private sector , the report said.
Woolridge said the report allowed individual agencies to compare their performance with other agencies for the first time, which she hoped would spark a “broader conversation across the public sector in terms of what else needs to change”.
