The Tories are set for 131 seats and 410 seats for Labour - the Lib Dems are set to win 61 MPs, and 13 for Reform UK
Keir Starmer is set to be swept to power with 410 seats, as voters poured out their rage and frustration at 14 years of Conservative rule. The Conservatives had suspected it was going to be bad. They didn’t know it was going to be this bad. Some Tory candidates had hoped the campaign polls weren’t accurate, receiving a warmer reception on the doorstep than they had anticipated.
The swing away from the Tories could mean several Tory big beasts are set to lose their seats, as the opposition parties hope to redefine the meaning of “Portillo moment.” Starmer had been urging voters for a mandate and it looks likely he’ll get one. The magic number required in the first past the post system for a majority is 326. However, about 320 would be enough because the Speaker and three deputies don’t vote, and Northern Ireland’s Sinn Fein chooses not to sit in Westminster.
