The bridge, which crosses Adams Creek, was destroyed in May in an alleged arson incident.
Governor Kay Ivey awarded $338,000 to the county to replace the bridge along L Vaughn Road , which was destroyed in a suspected arson incident back in May. GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. - Governor Kay Ivey ’s administration announced an additional $3.9 million dollars to be put towards different road projects throughout the state.
Among those receiving funds is Geneva County Road and Bridge, who is expected to put their $338,000 grant towards replacing the bridge on L Vaughn Road.With minimal funding year after year for the Road and Bridge Department, County Engineer Justin Barfield said the grant was crucial to rebuilding the bridge.
“Trying to balance all this out, it would be extremely hard to put that bridge back,” said Barfield. “If this money had not been awarded to us, it’d be the difference between putting the bridge back or not, so it’s a very big deal and great news.”Barfield thanked Senator Donnie Chesteen and Representative Jeff Sorrells for their commitment to getting funding for the project.
