Ryan Tidwell prepares for his final year with a group of seniors he’s taught for four years.
Sometimes the task for teachers to educate the next generation of bright minds turns into more than just making sure they walk across that stage.“I became a teacher because I wanted to help people do something that they didn’t think they could do,” said Geneva Advanced Placement teacher Ryan Tidwell.“The senior class this year, I’ve taught them since they were in ninth grade,” said Tidwell.“I’ve run into some of them in Walmart and Piggly Wiggly,” said Tidwell.
They are eager to sit in those seats again because of how well Mr. Tidwell prepares them for their future. “They set a goal last year for our school to have 83 qualifying scores on AP exams and we had 95,” said Tidwell. It’s about the work that they put in every day that will take them far in life. “I got several messages and emails from parents when the scores came out, it’ll just about bring you to tears,” said Tidwell. “It’s a big deal for families in the Wiregrass.”“Me having those students for so long, they really understand that I care about them as human beings,” said Tidwell.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
