Skipper Declan Rice also started while fellow midfielder Lucas Paqueta returned from injury on the bench. After Nayef Aguerd had a goal disallowed for handball, Danny Ings put West Ham 1-0 ahead just before half-time, tapping in Jarrod Bowen’s pass across goal.Gent defender Kamil Piatkowski was given a red card in the final minute of injury time after fouling Lucas Paqueta as he ran through on goal.

A free-kick was originally given and the referee went to the pitchside monitor to review the foul, rescinding the red card and taking the set-piece away from the Irons.
