Rishi Sunak’s own role during the pandemic, along with that of Boris Johnson, will come under scrutiny in the later phases of the inquiry.
New Freedom of Information requests by the TUC reveal that Sunak’s “Eat Out To Help Out” scheme cost more in a month than the Government spent on 18 months of its isolation support payment for low-earning workers. Subsequent modules of the inquiry will cover events after January 2020, when the World Health Organisation first declared the Covid-19 outbreak as a “public health emergency of international concern”.
