An inmate in Georgia has been indicted on multiple federal charges after allegedly mailing two “destructive devices” in 2020 to federal facilities in Alaska and New York.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Georgia, 55-year-old David Cassady is charged with making an unregistered destructive device; two counts of mailing a destructive device; and two counts of attempted malicious use of an explosive. The Attorney’s Office says one of Cassady’s bombs was sent to the U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building in Anchorage and the other to a federal facility in Washington, D.C.

The indictment claims Cassady was trying to “maliciously damage or destroy, by means of fire or explosive, a building in whole or in part owned or possessed by, or leased to, the United States,” and “created substantial risk of injury to a person.”According to the indictment, Cassady is jailed at Phillips State Prison in Buford, Georgia; he was an inmate at the Georgia State Prison in Reidsville, Georgia, when he allegedly mailed the bombs.
