Discover the incredible story of the Ghost Army and their secret mission to deceive the Nazis during World War II.
Several veterans from a secret unit have finally been recognized by Congress for their part in saving Allied lives during WW2.Three World War 2 veterans from the so-called “Ghost Army” have finally been recognized by the US Congress with Congressional Gold Medals.
“The actions of the Ghost Army helped change the course of the war for thousands of American and Allied troops and contributed to the liberation of a continent from a terrible evil,” Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth said during the ceremony at the US Capitol. The 23rd military unit comprised talented individuals from various fields, such as engineers, architects, artists, illustrators, and photographers. Many had also graduated from West Point, the Army’s military academy, and had undergone specialized training programs.
This happened as a result of the nearly a decade of work done by family members of the soldiers and Rick Beyer – a filmmaker and author who helped bring their story to light after their mission was declassified in 1996. As the Ghost Army Legacy Project president, Beyer produced and directed the documentary “The Ghost Army” in 2013 and co-authored the book “The Ghost Army of World War II” in 2015.
