Giants’ Brian Daboll will call plays, doesn’t want to talk about it. But if this fails, he probably is toast

Brian Daboll will call plays in 2024.

Daboll refused to detail his rationale for fully pushing aside offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, despite being asked multiple questions about calling plays.But here’s the bottom line, as Daboll bets on himself: If this fails, he probably is toast.

It’s hard to blame Daboll — who has an extensive track record of calling plays — for betting on himself in a hot-seat Year 3. If he’s going down, he might as well go down his way, doing what he’s done often in the past. Then, this past offseason, Daboll — who was on the verge of firing/losing all three coordinators — blocked Kafka from interviewing for Seattle’s play-calling offensive coordinator job. And now, Kafka officially will not call plays for the Giants in 2024.

“We work well together offensively,” Daboll said. “We’re getting ready to play Week 1. We’ve talked enough about that.”He said just two concrete things about the subject.Two: “Almost everybody in the league does it that’s an offensive head coach.”
