Gilas Pilipinas blew a chance to seal an outright spot in the quarterfinals after bowing to Jordan, 87-62 at the close of the 19th Asian Games men's basketball pool play on Saturday in Hangzhou, China.
Last season's PBA Governors' Cup Best Import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson tormented the national squad after coming out with an all-around effort of 24 points, nine assists, six rebounds, two steals, and the same number of blocks to lead Jordan to a three-game sweep of Pool C.
Hollis-Jefferson, who serves as Jordan's naturalized player, injected the energy for the West Asian squad, which also got the much-needed support from the locals.Gilas naturallized player Justin Brownlee carried the fight for the Philippines after firing 24 points. Scottie Thompson was the lone local double-figure scorer for Gilas as he had 11 points.The Filipinos closed pool play with a 2-1 record and are relegated to the classification for the quarterfinals.
