Izzy Clements, 14, uses a wheelchair after being diagnosed with the painful condition
An active teenager is now dependent on a wheelchair after suddenly being afflicted with a distressing condition dubbed "suicide disease".
Hayley Green, Izzy's mother, arranged for her to receive a ketamine-based treatment at a clinic in Majorca that is yet unavailable in the UK for those under 18 years old. But when this did not work, Hayley, 38, is trying to raise £25,000 to fund treatment in Italy in the hope to permanently 'cure' Izzy.
"It's awful as a parent seeing her deteriorate, and you can't help your child, when before she was bubbly and full of life." Meanwhile, she had to leave school, started using a wheelchair and began experiencing pain as well as leg swelling and cold sweats, almost 24/7. Her mother said: "She was in hospital from December until February to keep her on a meal plan and doing physiotherapy, and doctors tried to get her to use a walking frame.
In desperation, Hayley took Izzy on a £11,000 trip to Majorca for a ketamine-based treatment, though it unfortunately did not help her daughter's condition. Izzy isn't allowed access to stronger pain treatments such as spinal cord stimulation, lidocaine patches, and medical ketamine in the UK due to her age.
