Nine-year-old Mia-Ann Myerscough was described as a joyful child who adored her family.
A nine-year-old girl tragically died in the bath after her mum went downstairs for a few minutes to fetch her favourite toy.
On September 12, 2021, Ms. Myerscough had been preparing her daughter for a bath in their home's upstairs bathroom. She soon realised that Mia-Anns treasured Danny Dog squishy toy was missing - an item essential for Mia-Ann to relax during her bath. Mr Ward shared that Mia-Ann "loved her squishies" and would "take them everywhere, even school". Ms Myerscough added that her daughter depended on these sensory toys, and there had been some speculation about whether Mia-Ann was autistic.
Consultant Dr Alok Gaurav from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board's children's services shared insights into the control of Mia-Ann's epilepsy since 2019 during the hearing. According to him, it seemed that although Mia-Ann would go periods without seizures, they would occur in shorter, more pronounced bursts.
However, Ms Myerscough occasionally struggled to administer all of the prescribed medication to her daughter due to her refusal to take it. According to Ms Davies, there had been no reported issues concerning Mia-Ann's epilepsy for two years before her death. Ms Davies agreed that this was a suitable approach. There had been no previous incidents involving Mia-Ann in the bath prior to her death.
