For the first time in the Sons' 152-year history they will have an official women's side for the new season, as part of plans to improve their community outreach.
For the first time in the club’s 152 year existence they will have a female side for the 2024-25 campaign.
“It’s something that the local community needs. And we’ve benefitted from the involvement of a team like DFC, so it’s great for our future.“We came along and had a few chats with them which were all positive.“Women’s football is flourishing at the moment. It’s more popular now than it ever has been.“As coaches we’ll be making the girls aware of that, but the most important thing is to let them enjoy it.
He continued: “Myself and Kenny are determined to provide opportunities for local talent first, so that this young squad can mature into itself. “Rather than other clubs who put out adverts looking to bring in a fresh new squad from everywhere and anywhere.“But our main focus will be on developing the local youth.“Once we’re into the stadium next season then we’ll set other targets.”
