Christina McKelvie, Minister for Drugs and Alcohol Policy of Scotland, visited to see how arts charity, Creative Change Collective, is helping to cut reoffending through a drama programme.
Prisoners at Glasgow's Barlinnie entertained Scotland's drugs minister with a "powerful and inspiring" performance.
She was wowed by a rehearsed reading from the 'anonymous drama' group. The Glasgow MP was joined by the charity’s founder, Mark MacNicol, who was inspired to set up CCC following the death of his brother, Jason, from a heroin overdose.READ MORE: Emergency services 'search for body' in River Clyde near George V Bridge
Christina McKelvie said: "I’ve seen first-hand the therapeutic value of culture and art, and I’m pleased to see the positive effect of this project which the Scottish Government has helped fund.Michael Stoney, the Governor in charge at HMP Barlinnie, added: "We are grateful to Creative Change Collective for the work they are doing here in Barlinnie.
"Our work supports people in prison to learn new skills, develop their confidence and sense of teamwork, and prepare for life outside in a way that makes it less likely they will reoffend.
