Almost 80% of GMB members have accepted the new pay deal made by COSLA

A proposed bin strike hitting Glasgow residents has been called off after members of the GMB trade union in Glasgow and across Scotland voted to accept the most recent pay deal offered by COSLA .

Glasgow’s cleansing convenor Chris Mitchell praised GMB members across the country for being willing to take industrial action in order to get a pay rise.He said: “The deal has been accepted across the country and that includes cleansing and care workers as well. “We appreciate everything that cleansing workers were going to do again. We are just waiting on our two sister trade unions, Unite and Unison, to see when their ballot results will come through.”

Keir Greenaway, GMB Scotland senior organiser in public services, confirmed the industrial action, suspended during the vote, would not now go ahead.
