The funds will also support upgrades on school routes to encourage walking and cycling to school.
More than £8.6 million has been granted to Glasgow City Council to promote the city’s active travel network and sustainable transport methods.
This will see £2.5 million go towards the Connecting Battlefield scheme which will oversee the delivery of segregated cycle routes and improvements to public space to encourage walking, wheeling and cycling while £1 million will improve accessibility along the North East active travel route.A further £500,000 will see a two-way segregated cycle route at Pitt Street between Sauchiehall and Waterloo Street.
It will also support junction and pedestrian upgrades on school routes to encourage walking and cycling to school. Councillor Angus Millar, convenor for transport, said: “This paper is yet another acceptance of funds. This time the committee is invited to accept £8.6 million of funds that the council has been successful in securing to support a range of active travel projects.
