Glasgow council to spend £5.3 million buying bin lorries that meet LEZ rules

The council had originally planned to buy futuristic hydrogen powered vehicles but that wasn' t feasible.

The vehicles would meet the standards of the city's low emission zone as they are Euro emission standard 6.

The paper to be presented to a meeting later this week, said: "Due to the high volume of collections on tenemental routes there is a requirement for the refuse collection vehicle cab to accommodate up to four operatives. Farid Hillend Engineering was chosen as the recommended supplier after the firm met quality threshold criteria and other bids failed to do so.The old bin lorries being replaced will be sold, 'disposed of' or have parts reused by the council in other vehicles.
