The doctor pressured parents to pay for unneeded tests and scans

A Glasgow doctor who frightened parents into paying for private treatment by wrongly diagnosing children with cancer has lost his appeal against his removal from the medical register.

The first case involved a teenager who was falsely diagnosed with a neuroblastoma in her stomach. The upset parents were told that "We are going to talk about the 'C' word." Chowdhury suggested that each of the patients go through expensive treatment in London. He pushed back on referring the latter two patients to the NHS, and in the case of the first child refused to write a letter to her GP confirming his diagnosis.
