Pop-up shops and property repairs could be funded by the pilot scheme, with bids accepted from September 16.
Grants of up to £20,000 are on offer to Glasgow firms and community groups as the council looks to improve the look and feel of the city centre.
It will open for applications on September 16 and Cllr Millar encouraged those with “proposals that meet the aims of the project and believe they can make a genuine positive contribution to our city centre to apply”. He added: “I’m aware that it is only a pilot but I do feel that it is perhaps money that may be lost to the city that could potentially be better used elsewhere.”
“But if it can make a difference in terms of making some external areas and some parts of the city centre look and feel nicer then that is certainly a good thing.” Cllr Thomas Kerr, Conservative, said: “There’s a feeling out there among Glaswegians, investors and businesses that the city is a bit grubby and a bit unwelcome at the moment.
It is hoped vacant ground floor properties can be used for pop-up shops, short-term leases and third sector occupation.
