Back Off Scotland have warned that anti-abortion campaigners will be holding 'vigils' outside various Glasgow healthcare settings for 40 days starting from next week.

Texas-based '40 Days of Life' campaigners are expected to make their stand outside healthcare settings from September 27 until November 5, as the fight to introduce buffer zones in Scotland continues. The group have been known to hold graphic placards, leaflet patients, and loudly pray within close proximity to clinics offering safe abortions.

Plans to introduce buffer zones around abortion clinics to stop the protestors from harassing patients and staff have received cross-party support in Glasgow. Green MSP Gillian Mackay introduced legislation to end protests earlier this year with the first vote expected in next month. They added: "Forgive us for sounding like a broken record, but we're committed to ensuring people across Scotland never have to face intimidation, harassment or judgement when getting abortions. This extends to anyone accessing healthcare, sexual health facilities, or even their workplace.

"Scotland has paved the way in so many aspects of healthcare and social progress. Where's the action here?"
